Abstract

The way to Emmaus (Lk. 24:13-35) - Highlights of a Catechesis of today's Youth. Young people and intellectuals are two special, imperative ”targets” of the mission of the contemporary Church. The present study points out that in the Emmaus episode, we have the unique model of ecumenical catechesis, gave by the Savior Christ himself, and united with its final goal, the Eucharistic communion with Him. The Christian Churches, everywhere, must appropriate this as a unique, ecumenical missionary objective in the youth ministry, today and tomorrow. The solution of the ”Traveling Stranger” on the way to Emmaus can also be the applicable solution in the catechizing mission of today's young people. The catechetical objective of this scene is none other than that of the Church's preoccupation with the transformation of the status of the young catechized: from mere travelers through life, into ”lay apostles” of Jesus.
